The country is prone to landslides during the rainy season, with the problem aggravated in some places by deforestation
Held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the event will offer a multi-disciplinary experience, combining an art fair with diverse programmes, as well as 40 established and innovative galleries from 20 countries.
Rita Aoun-Abdo, executive director of culture sector at the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, highlighted that local and international artists will join together in one hub.
"Providing a platform for a universal perspective on art that is not defined by region or geography, Abu Dhabi Art continues to bring world-class art and experiences to the capital, supporting the UAE's ever-evolving art scene and positioning itself as a global hub for cultural and artistic exchange."
Abu Dhabi Art presents two overarching sectors: A public programme that connects with the wider community, and a series of public talks, bringing together experts.
Artworks by leading figurers such as Pablo Picasso, Idris Khan, French painter and sculptor Jean Dubffet, Wael Shawky, Etel Adnan, Jacques Villeglé, Ali Banisadr, Shafic Abboud, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Mounirah Mosly, Ibrahim El Dessouki, Nja Mahdaoui and Lawrence Weiner will be displayed. Emirati artists will also be displaying their works, including Abdul Qader Al Rais and Mohamed Al Mazrouei.
The fourth edition of Durub Al Tawaya, a multidisciplinary performing arts programme curated by Tarek Abou El Fetouh, is also set to have live performances by a number of international artists. The programme will present several new commissions in public spaces, including Saadiyat Island, the Corniche and Mina Zayed, from November 10 to 19.
Artist Anna Rispoli will develop a new production on the waterfront of Abu Dhabi while artist Raed Yassin will compose a new solely acoustic performance in collaboration with traditional Emirati musicians on Abu Dhabi Corniche.
Other performances include an Abu Dhabi-based version of the contemporary opera composed by Keiichiro Shibuya, which will be performed on the beach by the Japanese virtual humanoid persona, Hatsune Miku, and a new site specific performance at Manarat Al Saadiyat by visual artist Miet Warlop.
The programme will also offer an electronic concert by the Swiss-Lebanese band PRAED, and a performance by the celebrated Chinese dance company TAO Dance Theater.
Other art and performance programmes taking place this month includes the top 10 finalists of UAE National Day Calligraphy Competition, where visitors can meet the renowned Emirati calligrapher, Mohammed Mandi, on November 6 at Yas Mall.
