The agreement is the first step of upcoming expansions that represent a considerable opportunity for both MBC and My-HD to significantly upgrade consumers’ viewing experience, the company said in a statement.
Viewers who purchase My-HD-approved receivers or viewing cards will be able to enjoy MBC 1, MBC 2, MBC 4, MBC Action, MBC Drama, MBC MAX and Al Arabiya News Channel, for free, in high definition available on both Nilesat and Yahsat.
“Nearly one million MBC TV households who already own Humax HD receivers can finally enjoy MBC’s HD channels by purchasing a My-HD viewing card, available at Humax dealers and shortly in key Hypermarkets across the GCC,” My-HD chief executive officer Cliff Nelson said.
“We are excited about the combined value that the MBC Group and My-HD brings to viewers in the region. The HD viewing experience is far superior to SD [standard definition] channels; the majority of homes already have HD-ready TVs but are not enjoying true HD content. Our goal is to bring the best HD experience to millions of MBC viewers and we are thankful to launch our platform in time for the holy month of Ramadan,” Nelson added.
“We take pride in launching our seven HD channels on the My-HD platform, expanding MBC’s ultimate HD experience to as many MBC viewers as possible,” MBC Group CEO Sam Barnett said.
