HCL plans big ME expansion
HCL Infosystems is currently chalking out major expansion plans in the Middle East and is planning a substantial investment for the same, HCL Infosystems MEA CEO Shivkumar Gopal said.
“HCL Infosystems has been present in the region since the last two years. With the launch of our mobility products here, we are further reaffirming our position as the leading ICT services and hardware provider of the region. The fact that we choose Gitex Shopper for the global launch of our new product reaffirms our commitment to this region,” Gopal told Khaleej Times in an interview during Gitex Shopper.
Asked on how the company would face competition in tablets, he said: “HCL has never shied away from competition. We believe in giving the consumers a product with a mix of applications, hardware and services. We are confident we will do better in days to come.”
The company is currently exploring opportunities in education as a separate business and is planning to bring digitised contents under the K9-K12 system to the UAE with the Arabisation of contents for schools and universities.
“We are in talks with schools and universities and applications are built around for learning is something we are intrested in and this will happen within the range of current products,” added Gopal said.
Asked if there are any more acquisitions in the pipeline on the heels of its recent one on Dubai-based NTS, he said: “We have just entered the market through the acquisition and would like to stabilise with what we have but we are open to acquisitions and never like to say no and grow from here on. We are focusing on the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Oman. Organic growth is always important for strategic market. We are looking at B2B markets, buidling applications for schools, airlines hospitality across the Middle East and also in India. We have grown year-on year basis and we command our positions in top five companies in India.”
