The hosts, who had encountered a scare before seeing off a gritty Thailand in extra time, in their previous game, brushed aside Hong Kong 5-1.

Captain Juma Mohammed Al Dhaheri, Mohamad El Jachi, Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Suhail Al Mehairi and Saeed Al Nuaimi scored for the UAE, while Justin Lam scored the lone goal for Hong Kong. In other games on the night, Mongolia defeated Kuwait 3-1, while Chinese Taipei well on course to defending their title by spanking 15-1.

After a goalless first period, the UAE went ahead on 21 minutes through Juma Mohammed Al Dhaheri after a PP1 (Power play – one player). They then doubled the lead on 36 minutes through Mohamad El Jachi after an SH1 (Shorthanded – 1 player).

Hong Kong reduced the margin through Justin Lam on 38 minutes after a PP1. But three goals in the third and final period by the UAE, put the result beyond doubt.

Mubarak Al Mazrouei scored on 44 minutes after a PP1 and Suhail Al Mehairi added the fourth on 46 minutes after an EQ (Equal strength). Saeed Al Nuaimi then rounded it off with the fifth on the hour mark after a PP1. Up next, the UAE face a stiff test when they take on Chinese Taipei, who have been on a roll so far. In the other game, the on song Weng To carried on from where he left off by scoring four goals, while Lifeng Lu too scored four goals as Chinese Taipei cruised past Thailand.
