From thundershowers to off-course controversies to magical birdies and eagles, the DP World Tour event had something to offer everyone
The pair representing Emirates Golf Club fired a net 68.5 over the Faldo course to take a slender lead into the final round. The highlight of their round started on the 11th tee, they managed a birdie three on the 403-yard 11th and backed that up with another birdie on the 150-yard short par 3 twelfth.
Close on their tails is the pairing of Carolyn and Nigel Thompson following a net 69. The Emirates Golf Club pairing will be very confident going into the final round having clinched the Emirates Mixed Amateur open back in October following a sudden death playoff.
Also on net 69 are Eung Chun Oh and Dong Ho Choi with 7 other pairings all within 4 shots of the lead and in with a chance of victory on the final day of this prestigious trophy.
The 166 competitors will compete in the final round over the Majlis course tomorrow.
The popular championship, sponsored by Al Dobowi, has established its credentials as one of the ‘majors’ on the UAE golfing calendar since its inception in 2000, and this year is no exception with almost 100 teams, each comprising two players, competing for honours in this 36-hole event.
The championship follows the tricky Greensomes format where both players on a team tee off, the best of the two tee balls is selected and that ball is then played on an alternate-shot basis until holed.
Last year the team of Glyn Sowerby and Shashi Raghavan combined effectively to win the championship.
