GIS and IHS register victories

The 3rd Skyline Inter-School Sports Festival organised by the Skyline University College (SUC) started on Saturday at the SUC campus. Basketball, soccer and table tennis are the dsiciplines being fought out in the festival.

The first soccer match was played between the boys’ teams of Gulf Indian School (GIS), Dubai and Indian High School (IHS), Dubai. Gulf Indian School won the match 2-0 in a closely contested match.

Both the teams displayed fine tactics but luck favoured Gulf Indian when it came to scoring goals. Stefan and Abdulla scored the goals for the winners.

In the second match Emirates National School, Sharjah edged New Indian Model School, Sharjah 2-1. Though New Indian Model School had the supremacy their forward players were not able to find the target. Delhi Private School, Sharjah thrashed Progressive English School, Sharjah 4-1.

Sidharth Shekhar scored a brace for Delhi Private School, Sharjah.

The other scorers were Vaildyalingam and Zain while Hassan Khamis scored the consolation goal for Progressive English School, Sharjah.

The Progressive School keeper came out with some flying saves to keep the final margin to just three goals. Our Own High School, Al Warqa beat the youngsters of The Millennium School, Dubai. 3-1. Millennium started off well and gave shock treatment to the well experienced Our Own, Al Warqa lads by scoring through Rishabh in the 10th minute.

But shortly through a very beautiful move, the Our Own boys found the equaliser. Akash connected the well calculated pass from Faizan with a first timer into the net.

In the last minutes of the match Sheik Aman and Faizan scored for Our Own and qualified for the quarter-final round. The second day saw top fare in basketball.

In the girls match between Indian High School, Dubai and Our Own English High School, Sharjah; Indian High School, Dubai won 18–13. The first and second periods of the match saw neck to neck fight between the highly spirited girls of IHS and Our Own. At the half time the score was tied.

Indian High School star player Ayushi Chudgar scored 8 points in the third quarter to take her team to a 4 points lead.

In the last period Our Own girls tried their best to level the score but the strong defence work by Indian High School, Dubai did not allow them to score. Scorers (IHS: Ayushi-8, Ritu-4; Our Own: Sanjana-5, Navneet-4)

In the boys match, Emirates National School, Sharjah defeated Our Own, Sharjah 44-14. The experienced Emirates National School had clear superiority throughout the match. Amir displayed an excellent game for Emirates National School. Scoerers (ENS: Amir-21, James-9, Joel-6)

In the third match, Our Own High School, Al Warqa lost to last year’s runners-up New Indian Model School, Sharjah 56–15.

Scorers (NIMS: 56, Imran-8, Mohammed Saehan-6. Our Own: 16. Salil Hari-9) Defending champions, St Mary’s Catholic School, Dubai won against the youngsters of Indian High School, Dubai who put a wonderful game.

It was a closely contested match throughout. Indian High School played a disciplined game with systematic moves while St. Mary’s who played a freelance game got the lead only in the last quarter.

They won by a narrow margin of 52-49. Scorers: (St. Mary’s: 52. Lawrence-22, Nicholas-18 beat IHS: 49 Ahraz-15, Akash-12, Kelvin-12) DPS, Sharjah won comfortably against Westminster in the boys and girls sections.

Today’s quarter-final matches will be conducted in basketball and soccer. Table Tennis matches will be held from April 17.
