Danube Lions win by first innings lead

Danube Lions continued their domination over Dubai Lions on second and concluding day their Danube Test Series match played under the auspices of Dubai Cricket Council.

Dubai Lions, continuing day two at 64 for 6, in reply to Danube Lions’ first innings score of 283 for 9, were left with trying to amass at least another 119 runs to avoid a follow on. However, Riaz Afridi who picked up 4 top-order batsman the previous day, started the day with a wicket of his first over. None of the Dubai Lions batsman were able to settle in and thereafter Yasir Shah picked up 2 more wickets as Dubai Lions were bundled out for 83 in 29 overs.

Danube Lions enforced the follow on and the script was the same as in the first innings. Dubai Lions’ batsmen were unable to face up to the experienced Riaz as he skimmed through the top order with 4 wickets. Tottering at 70 for 6 in 25 overs, Dubai Lions’ were fighting to save the match and deny Danube an outright victory.

They survived the remaining 16 overs as the match ended in a draw. However, Danube Lions got the 1stinnings lead and gained as many points as they could.

The next match will be played between Yogi Group and Emirates Group Cricket Team

Meanwhile, Yogi Group and Emirates Group battled out on the first day of the 4th Match of the Danube Test Series.

Winning the toss, Nigel Fernandes, skipper of Emirates put in Yogi Group to bat first.

Yogi openers started positively as they built a partnership of 72 runs before Jaykishan was dismissed for 28 by Ahmed Nizam. Abid Ali went past his personal milestone of 50. Soon after, he was caught off a superb delivery by Adil Reyal for 54. Ahmed Nizam immediately got the better of Aniket Desai who was in fine form from the previous match, dismissed for a duck.

Sufiyan Rehman (41) and skipper Avadoot Amonkar (68) were the major contributors as Yogi Group were dismissed for 263 in 64.3 overs. Ahmed, Adil and Nizar Khan got 3 wickets each.

In reply, Emirates Group openers stayed on the wicket for a long time, putting on a partnership of 84 runs. Rahul Chatwani did the bulk of the scoring, hitting a fluent 58. He lost his wicket towards the end of days play, caught by Avadoot. He was dismissed by Sunny Patel. Gaurav and Qamar batted till the end of days play as Emirates were sitting comfortable at 96 for 1 in 40 overs. Emirates will continue Day 2, trying to accelerate their scoring rate to go past Yogi Group’s 1st innings to score.
