The Editorial, No child should suffer due to negligence (KT, June 17) was an eye-opener. However, I would like to point out some more issues. In this scorching summer, some school buses in Sharjah run without proper air conditioners.
And three to four students are made to sit in seats meant for two. When questioned, the schools claim that some of their buses have gone for repairs and hence the inconvenience. But the issue has been going on for over a month!
When the children return from schools in the afternoon, the buses are extremely hot since they are parked out in the open. It takes at least 30 minutes for them to cool down. This can cause dehydration and related health problems. It would be a good idea if the ACs in buses are switched on well ahead of time. After all, students' well-being should be top priority.
I request the authorities to initiate surprise inspections on school buses so that all facilities are provided to the children.
