Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former prime minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, who passed away in London after a prolonged battle with cancer, will undoubtedly be remembered as the woman of great substance who stood by her husband against all odds. As the first lady of Pakistan, she maintained a low profile, lived a dignified life, barely spoke in public and avoided politics, until she was thrust into it to protect the honour of her family. She was a post graduate in Urdu literature and was the granddaughter of legendary Pakistani wrestler Gama Pahlwan. In her death, Nawaz Sharif has lost a devout wife and his children have lost a caring mother. RIP, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
