Just an hour for our Earth!

It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light, said Aristotle Onassis. Our Earth is plunging rapidly into a state of degradation. Energy or electricity, as we call it, is the main culprit in this scenario. It was once the need of the hour and now it has brought the need for ‘The Hour’. Earth Hour. The hour in a year when the seven billion human inhabitants of earth switch off in a frantic rush to save the planet.

So we plan to rescue our damsel in distress by switching off our electrical appliance or just bulbs for one hour in one day in a year? Sure it might symbolise the need to save electricity, but other than that one hour, is it making a big difference to the consumption?

It’s high time we realised that all this pomp and show is in vain. It ‘s time we rise together as a species and do something serious to save the planet. Put together our intellectual capabilities and combat pollution, global warming, resource depletion and the diseases brought along with it.

There mustn’t be a separate group of ‘activists’ or ‘warriors’ to help the planet. It shouldn’t be a job. It is a duty of every single being. Let us join hands and go beyond the hour...our Earth deserves more than just 60 minutes.
