The Congress party initiated the move for bifurcation of the Andhra Pradesh state undemocratically and in a hurry as a cheap vote-bank strategy. Both houses of the Andhra Pradesh legislature rejected the bill.

The Congress party’s own MPs were against the bifurcation. Knowing this, the party leadership should have consulted them first. All democratic norms were flouted while introducing the bill in parliament. The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government was aware of the plans of the anti-Telangana MPs to disrupt parliament. But the Speaker refused to allow marshals inside the house.
