Countdown timers at traffic signals

Ajman has countdown displays at traffic signals, which I think is a good way to regulate traffic, especially at busy junctions.
A countdown gives a tentative idea to motorists about the change of signals and thus reduce rush and confusion. It can also help reduce accidents, and allow motorists to slow down or even switch off their engines when the wait time is long.
The UAE has been looking at reducing its carbon footprint, installing timers at signals across the seven emirates could help the country in this drive.
