Awareness issue
This is in response to the news story regarding the Peace Convention held in Dubai (KT/ April 14) which was a good step forward in the direction of awareness. Though every religion favoured education for both boys and girls social customs and traditions were critical to women and responsible for their backwardness.
Education is the best ornament of a woman. Perhaps it has been forgotten that women too constitute half the community and no real progress can be achieved if the educational need of this important sector is neglected. What cannot be ignored is that women are subject to many of the problems affecting society at large, like wife abuse, dowry problem, domestic violence etc which is only due to the lack of education and awareness.
