After their fairytale royal wedding gripped the entire world, Meghan and Harry - the Duke and Duchess of Sussex  - are hogging the limelight as they expect their first child together next spring.
The news of Meghan being pregnant was announced by Kensington Palace. The child will be seventh-in-line to the British throne and come behind his or her father Prince Harry in the line of succession. The birth of the child will put Harry's uncle, the Duke of York, further down the line into eighth place, according to Daily Mail report.
But the child will not automatically be given the title of prince or princess as Harry is the second son of the current Prince of Wales.
This, however, can change if the Queen steps in to change the rules. If a son is born to Meghan and Harry, he would be styled the Earl of Dumbarton, while a daughter would be Lady (first name) Mountbatten-Windsor.
The announcement by Kensington Palace read: "Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."
Speculations about Meghan being pregnant triggered after her mother Doria Ragland was seen taking baby-care classes in Pasadena. The new royal baby is expected to take the surname Sussex in the same way that Prince William's children, George, Charlotte, and Louis have taken his title Cambridge as their last name at school and nursery.
The baby will supersede Prince Andrew in the line of succession, regardless of whether they are a boy or a girl, following a 2011 change in the law that granted the same status to sons and daughters. King George V - Harry's great great grandfather - limited titles within the royal family in 1917. This means Harry and Meghan's firstborn, as a great-grandchild of the sovereign, is too far down the line of succession to be an HRH.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their engagement in November 2017, shortly after confirming their relationship and married at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, in May this year.
