Reliance Jio has doubled its subscriber base to 215 million in 22 months, Reliance Industries' (RIL) Chairman & Managing Director Mukesh D. Ambani saidin Mumbai on Thurday.
"We have more than 25 million JioPhone users in India," Ambani told shareholders at the 41st Annual General Meeting of RIL.
He also announced that the company is launching Jio GigaFiber, Jio's fixed line broadband.
The fixed-line broadband will be introduced in 1,100 cities in India.
According to a report in the Livemint, Jio GigaFiber will provide ultrahigh-definition entertainment accessibility to houses on their own TV screens along with a provision of video conferencing, shopping online and virtual reality gaming.
A report in the Economic Times also states that the Jio GigaFiber broadband will be accompanied by a set top box for TV that will boast of a voice command feature for TV and not to forget the broadband will also come with a TV calling attribute.
Mukesh Ambani also said that the company saw its biggest growth opportunity "in creating a hybrid, online-to-offline new commerce platform".
He further added that Reliance Retail's revenue grew by 100 per cent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis Rs69,000 crore last year.
