A heartbroken 21-year-old student committed suicide by hanging himself after he realized that his relationship with a girl would not culminate in to marriage.
Deekshith, a resident of Savanooru district in Mangaluru, met a girl on Facebook and both got into a long-distance relationship.
Deekshith and the girl, who is an engineering student from Mysuru, exchanged numbers and became friends.
The friendship grew over a period of time and they both got into a relationship.
Though the two never met each other, it is alleged that they stayed in contact through phone until they realized that they cannot get married, and decided to split. However, police sources stated that the two decided to continue to remain friends and were in touch over the phone.
According to reports in The Times of India, Deekshith has left a four-page suicide note stating his plight after his relationship ended. However, he has also stated that no one should be held responsible for his suicide and hanged himself from a cashew tree near his house on November 16.
Deekshith also worked as a mason to earn a livelihood and is survived by his mother who works in a beedi factory. While his father passed away a few years ago.
It is alleged that the deceased was already in depression before he met the girl online, and had tried to commit suicide twice earlier by swallowing sleeping pills and consuming poison, the report states.
Police allege that the girl is not aware of Deekshith's suicide.
