11 illegal migrants found super-glued inside truck

They survived on expensive Belgian chocolate.

Eleven illegal immigrants were rescued by firefighters in Wiltshire, UK, after they had been superglued into the back of a lorry. The 10 Iraqis, including a baby and six children aged between six and 15 years, and one Afghan national were discovered when the lorry pulled into a lay-by and people at a nearby cafe noticed 'shouting'.

The migrants survived for days on the expensive Belgian chocolate which was being transported in the lorry. People called the police after they heard banging and shouting from inside the lorry. However, firefighters had to be called for help to open the lorry because the locks had been glued shut, onlookers were quoted saying in Daily Mail.

The owner of the cafe near which the lorry was parked said, "The migrants had been eating very expensive Belgian chocolate being transported in the lorry. I was in the cafe on site with three drivers when someone came in and said that there was large banging on the side of a lorry.

He added, "Drivers come in every Saturday after coming back from the continent and so when we were told of the banging, we all knew straight away what it was about. It has happened here twice before in the past 15 years I believe."

The migrants were medically assessed and were held by the police for allegedly illegally entering the UK on Saturday, police said.

Police sources said, "There were 12 police officials at the scene and the back doors of the lorry had been damaged by both glue and force and could not be opened, a typical method used by gangs that organise people into the country."

Police added that trailer was a refrigerated unit and the migrants were lucky to survive as they were stowed in the back section of the vehicle.
