13-year-old girl steals car along with 8 children

The teenage driver increased the speed after seeing the police.

A 13-year-old girl along with eight other children was found in a stolen car at about 1.30am on Wednesday. 
The parents of the teenagers were surprised that the nine children were crammed inside the stolen Suzuki Swift. 
Acting Sergeant Nathan Dickey told Nzherald that the police received a complaint from a family member that her car had been stolen from her home and she held three of her family members and one of their friends responsible for the theft.
After the police spotted the car in the night, the 13-year-old driver increased the speed and later pulled over on the side of the road. 
The police were surprised to find that a 13-year-old was driving with a 16-year-old sitting next to her and children as young as 10 squeezed in the back seat. 
The car sustained minor injuries but was returned to the owners. The police are trying to understand what happened that night.
