The race is held as part of the Shaikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival and underlines the success which has been achieved by the UAE General Women’s Union under the wise and able leadership of the Union’s Chairwoman Her Highness Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak.

“I’m so excited with the experience,” said Fatima Al Marri who’s planning to continue her new career when she returns home after the race. The 26-year-old is a holder of B. Sc. degree and married.

“I would like to thank Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance, for all the support he’s been providing for me.

“My first ride in Abu Dhabi would be on the opening day of the new racing season and hopefully everything will go according to the plan.

“I will start with Arabian horses before taking a courageous step to partner the Thoroughbreds. They told me they are difficult to handle, but I will try,” she said.

“There’s nothing prohibited or forbidden when it comes to horse riding. All the lights are green and there are no red lines. My family and husband provided me with every support and motivation to work my way through,” she said.

“I have been riding for Shaikh Hamdan Endurance Stables and this is going to be my first experience with flat races. I have been training extensively in Dubai and Paris before coming here. It’s not going to be easy although all my opponents are amateurs. There are some experienced riders, but let’s hope for the better,” she said.

Shathra Al Hajjaj echoed the same opinion and is looking forward to a finish in the top three.

Al Marri will be riding Tarfa from the stables of Shaikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan in France while Al Hajjaj partners Fontage Lady from the stables of Shaikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

In the meantime, Oman will be represented by Fatima Al Manji, weighing 57kg, and Azhar Al Wardi, weighing 49kg. Qatar will be represented by Khadija Al Bistiki.

However, the Omani riders looked confident. They are regular riders for the Sultani Stables and follow in the footsteps of the apprentice Salima Al Taleei who’s riding for the Liwa Stables in the UAE.
