Tenor Des Vialettes main race favourite
DUBAI - The Arabian Triple Crown is the feature race at Abu Dhabi this Sunday evening and a select field of five have been declared for the Group Three 2200m feature, a media release said.
Four of the runners competed in the UAE Arabian Derby last time and the Musabah Al Muhairi trained Tenor Des Vialettes won with stable companion Aqmaar in fourth.
Richard Hills again rides the first named with Tadhg O’Shea on Aqmaar.
Hills’mount does have a penalty having also won the first round of the Triple Crown and looks certain to be a popular Pick Six choice.
Hills said: “Tenor Des Vialettes has improved with each run and is proven over course and distance. He will run a big race again.”
Timadit Al Mels and Pharitz Djeush were third and fifth respectively in the UAE Arabian Derby and would be surprise winners.
Runner-up in the opening round of the Triple Crown was the Philippe Barbe-trained Frynchman and he looks a big danger with the step up in trip likely to suit him.
Barbe’s Burkan Al Asayl chased home Tenor Des Vialettes in the UAE Arabian Derby but reverts to 1600m in the Emirates Colts’ Classic.
Like Frynchman, he will be ridden by Olivier Peslier and will be very hard to beat.
The meeting concludes with a prep for the Group Three Emirates Championship and, over the same 2200m course and distance as the end of season highlight, it has attracted a field of 11.
A conditions race, it features a re-match between Al Muhairi’s Too Much Trouble and Mubarak bin Shafya’s Mojave Moon who fought out a finish in a 2400m handicap over this course three weeks ago.
The former, who was Wayne Smith’s mount came out on top but is not weighted to confirm that form. The jockey said: “This is his third run in the UAE and again we are drawn wide. He has run well both times and battled gamely last time. The drop in trip should not inconvenience him and hopefully he can go close in a better race.”
Bin Shafya also saddles Royaaty, the choice of stable jockey Pat Cosgrave and a progressive five year old who has only had six starts. This will be his turf debut and he is an interesting contender.
Champion Trainer Ali Rashid Al Raihe saddles Monte Alto, winner of last year’s Emirates Championship and the mount of Richard Hills. He has had five runs at Meydan in the Dubai International Racing Carnival and may find this an easier assignment.
Hills has chosen him over Alrasm, having only his second start in the UAE and will be ridden by Tadhg O’Shea for trainer Erwan Charpy.
