Moreira, who is known as ‘The Magician,’ has developed a strong reputation in racing circles globally after impressing at tracks across his native Brazil, Hong Kong and Singapore.

He is believed to have set a new world record on September 6th last year, when he rode eight winners from as many runs in a nine-race card at the Kranji course in Singapore. Such performances have unsurprisingly allowed him the opportunity to mount five horses on Dubai World Cup night on Saturday, but tentative talk of him joining Godolphin soon is seemingly well wide of the mark.

”That’s just rumours and people have made up that story,” Moreira said. “Even if there are people talking about it, no one has come and spoken to me about it, so I’ll just stay in the present like everyone else.” Moreira has three rides for Australian trainer John Moore, with Sterling City going in the Dubai Golden Shaheen, Dominant running in the Dubai Sheema Classic and Military Attack travelling in the Dubai World Cup.

He’s naturally confident that he’s mounting the right sorts, but there’s hardly any surprise as to which one he’d like to win most of all on come the big day.

”I’m obviously looking forward to riding all three horses, but the main race is the Dubai World Cup, which everyone wants to win one day and I’m no different. I really want to win that race,” Moreira added.

”I believe Military Attack can do it. He’s in good form. He won his last run in Hong Kong with me on board and hopefully he can take that into the race here in Dubai.

”If he does bring his ‘A Game’ into this race, he’s definitely going to be hard to beat and very competitive. I’m really confident that my horse can perform.”
