The six-year-old gelded son of Elusive Quality broke nicely from stall ten on the outside and raced keenly behind front-runner Inxile before Doleuze shaked the reins and the brilliant performer hit the front and stormed home unchallenged. The connections of the horse said he will remain in training in Dubai and will go to the Dubai Golden Shaheen on the Dubai World Cup night.

Santhal, under a strong drive of top Irish jockey William Supple, made virtually all to land the second round of the 2200m Purebred Arabians Al Maktoum Challenge R-2 in a tight finish at the busy end.

Trained by Erwan Charpy at the Green Stables, the ten-year-old veteran son of Djebbel broke well and showed the way before displaying a strong heart to prevail by just a neck from fast finishing UAE debutant Priander in the hands of Roary Cleary. Public choice The mount of Richard Hills, Kandar Du Falgas in the first colours of Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, was a half-length back in third place.

In the second race, Lord Of The Stars lived up to his name to win the 1400m Meydan Classic Trial in the hands and heels of Tadhg O’Shea.

The Speigghstown colt broke well from stall three and raced against the fences to forge clear when challenged by the mount of Kieren Fallon, Krypton Factor.

Trained by David Simcockon, Lord Of The Stars gave his UAE owner Ahmed Al Shaikh his first win of the Dubai International Carnival since its inception in 2004.

However, Meydan Classic would be the obvious target for the colt who made his second reappearance a winning start on turf after having finished poor seventh to Zanzamar UAE debut on the Tapieta a couple of weeks ago.

The partnership of De Kock-Soumillon went for a back-to-back double. The pair saddled Mahbooba to land the UAE 10000 Guineas ahead of stable companion Reem, under Patrick Cosgrave.

The Southern Hemisphere-bred daughter of Galileo returned to the track in less than a month to reverse place with her earlier conqueror in the Guineas Trial on the opening day of the DIRC.

De Kock said she’s bred for a longer distance and she will go for the Oaks en route to the UAE Derby on the Dubai World Cup night.

Star Empire came with a late run under Soumillon to beat front-runner Calvados Blues near post and complete a double for the all-conquering stables of the South African trainer Mike De Kock in the 2485m Etisalat e Life which was contested on turf.

Having been narrowly defeated by Spring Of Fame over a shorter distance on the Tapieta, the four-year-old gelded son of Second Empire was shifted to the turf to race over an extended distance. However, the apparent target for Star Empire would be the 3200m Gold Cup later this month.
