Controversy doesn't seem to leave Nutella alone this year. After it came under fire last year for containing Palm oil, which was considered more carcinogenic than all other cooking oils, it is now the sugar content that is under scrutiny.

A Reddit user shared an image, visually breaking down the ingredients in Nutella and it has got the online world talking. Considering Nutella contains 8.5 g of sugar in each teaspoon, a 400g jar contains 227.2g of sugar, making up over half of the jar.

This picture depicts a 220 jar of Nutella with sugar comprising half its content has gone viral.

The other contents include hazelnuts, cocoa, skim milk powder and the controversial palm oil.

Nutella in a statement to The Sun said, "We don't disclose the full proportions of the ingredients in Nutella as our recipe is unique and we wish to safeguard this."

Why should you worry in the UAE?

Diabetes has become an issue of concern in the United Arab Emirates as more than 280,000 cases were diagnosed in 2015 - a rise of 35 per cent from the earlier year.

The International Diabetes Federation estimates that last year there were 1,086,300 diabetics in the country, compared with 803,940 in 2014. The main reasons cited include obesity and lifestyle changes.

Early this year, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE, took on to twitter to share an opinion piece titled 'A Month Without Sugar'.

Not long after he tweeted, many users in the region joined in the movement #NoSugar for a month.
