Power grids connect four emirates

SHARJAH — The second phase of the UAE National Power Grid (NPG), including grids from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah, became fully operational in Sharjah yesterday. The Sharjah electricity network was connected to the networks in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Engineer Al Waleed bin Khadem, director-general of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) said the 400kV coupled line linked the main electricity plant in Al Dhaid with that in Abu Dhabi. Another one connected the Al Dhaid plant to the Dubai main electricity plant.

Eng. Bin Khadem explained that the UAE national grid project is part of the power inter-connection throughout the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
