conferred degrees on the first batch of graduating students from the Preston University Ajman at a glittering convocation ceremony held at the Umm Al Moumineen Women's Association in Ajman yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, Shaikh Humaid congratulated all the students for endeavouring and working hard to obtain the degrees that they had received. "The emirate of Ajman and its government is proud to have five universities and colleges now operating within the Ajman territory including the Preston University. We are all aware of the prestigious reputation and high standing of the educational institution."
"We have tried to actively support the setting up of various educational institutions in the emirate and to grant them our personal attention because of our belief that the existence of such institutions is in itself a sign of a more advanced degree of civilisation and culture that we are currently enjoying in Ajman," he added.
Dr Abdul Basit, President of the University of Preston, in his speech said: "A very special appreciation goes out to the graduating students on their accomplishment. We are very proud of you because you are the flag-bearers of the university and whatever you achieve in your life will also add to the name of the university."
Headquartered at Wyoming in the US, Preston University has a global network of campuses where various degree courses are offered. Altogether there are 47 campuses in 21 countries across five continents. "It is truly a global university trying to reach out to new heights in university education," Dr. Basit said.
Earlier the programme started with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by a total of 45 students from various disciplines receiving their degrees from the Ruler of Ajman. In his message to the students, Dr. Jerry Henisch, the Chancellor of Preston University in the US, congratulated the students and wished them a bright and successful career.
From the coming academic year, Preston University will offer new degree courses on Islamic Studies and Fashion Designing in addition to the existing ones like Executive Management in Business Administration, Management in Business Administration, Bachelors of Science in Information Technology and Bachelor in Business Administration.
