The probation period for new government employees could be extended to nine months now. The regulation has been approved by the Federal Authority for Governmental Human Resources (FAHR).
The rule made exception for general directors and under-secretary positions. Other than these, the probation period for all staff employed in federal departments would be six months that could be increased to another three months, according to a statement issued by FAHR.
During the probation, the manager should evaluate the employee's work according to the standards and yardsticks spelt out in the contract.
Based on the evaluation, the manager would decide whether the new employee is fit for the position or not. If found unfit, the employee should get a notice of five days before the final working day. The staff should be given all the rights and benefits mentioned in the contract, including salary and air tickets for the employee and family, if asked to exit.

Recently, the FAHR held a meeting in Dubai to develop government staff privileges programme. The authority is studying the possibility of increasing the number of beneficiaries to the programme, including local government workers and their families.
