General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces on Tuesday affirmed that the martyrs of UAE are still alive among us and in our hearts as their memory is immortalised in our minds by their sacrifices, honour and good behaviour inspiring the generations, illuminating the way for them, giving them determination and strong will as well as the values of loyalty and patriotism without which there is no dignity for nations.

General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed made his remarks at the majlis of Al Bateen Palace as he received the family members of Emirati martyr police officer Tareq Al Shehhi to present them with the Order of Bravery which was conferred by the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan in recognition of his sacrifice for the sake of his nation.

First Lieutenant Tareq Al Shehhi and his two Bahraini colleagues were killed on duty while encountering a terrorist group in March in the village of the village of Diya, Bahrain, in a mission to support the security and stability of the Kingdom as part of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Joint Security Agreement.

“While this order expresses UAE’s honouring of, and appreciation for its good sons, our heartfelt feelings for the martyrs go even beyond the expressions of love, pride and loyalty,” General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed told Al Shehhi family.

Present at Al Shehhi honouring ceremony were Shaikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region; Shaikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council; Shaikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation; Lt General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs; Shaikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court; Shaikh Dhiyab bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister; Shaikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care & Special Needs(ZHO), Shaikhs, senior officials, senior officers of the Armed Forces, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and ambassadors of sisterly and friendly countries.

“We are all the sons of Zayed and we are one family. Today we gather here just like a bereaved Emirati family that lost one of a beloved one, in order to remember their life history and getting inspired by their sacrifices. At the same time we affirm that the nation’s loss of one of its best sons is also a loss for the one and united UAE. That is what has been reflected in the nationwide solidarity about the loss, and that is what has been a source of national pride and appreciation,” General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed added.

“We will never forget the great sacrifices of our blessed martyrs who offered their life showing the brightest instances of generous giving.”

Emphasising that the people of UAE will always remember its exemplary men, the martyrs in particular, General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed said, “We vow to Allah that their names will not be just names mentioned in books, but rather they will be an ongoing series of ongoing national initiatives of giving for the sake of a nation that looks forward to achieving the highest ranks of glory, progress and prosperity.”
