Shaikh Khalifa donates 80 falcons

The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has contributed 80 falcons from the Pro-Falcon Farm to the ongoing Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex 2012).

Shaikh Khalifa’s contribution emphasises the importance of protecting the endangered species and supporting the country’s efforts to preserve heritage, environment and wildlife, said Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Advisor for Culture and Heritage in the Court of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage. The UAE is one of the pioneering countries in the breeding and protection of the endangered species of birds, he added.

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa had contributed 100 falcons from the Pro-Falcon Farm in Al Ain to Adihex 2010.

Al Mazrouei, who is also the Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the Adihex, expressed his gratitude to the President, citing that he has been supporting the heritage projects, which contributed positively to the UAE’s efforts to register the falconry as an international humanitarian heritage in the Unesco’s intangible heritage list. He added that Shaikh Khalifa’s donation would further motivate falconers to use the falcons reproduced in captivity instead of the endangered falcons in the wild.

Al Mazrouei reiterated that the support of the President to the Adihex reflects his interest in the preservation of heritage, social and cultural values.

He referred to the efforts of the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to protect the endangered species in the wild, among others the falcons. —
