This was affirmed as the main focus of the 2nd Dubai International Peace Convention 2012 inaugurated by Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, on Thursday evening.
Bringing everyone at the same level of understanding about peace can inculcate pure thoughts that reflect in an individual’s personality, Director General of the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai Dr Hamad Al Shaibani said in his inaugural address.
“This convention thus aims towards enlightening the people of the world with the knowledge endowed to us by the one God who defined, created, and elaborated what peace really is and the means to achieve it,” he said.
The gathering primarily aims to provide education among the people that can promote peace, understanding and harmony in the light of the Holy Quran and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
Peace is only possible under justice and equality which “are both applicable across the UAE in view of outstanding achievements locally, regionally, and internationally”.
“The true peace eagerly sought after never means humiliation or weakness; on the contrary, it equals dignity, wisdom and strength. Our message to the world is: true peace is based on mutual respect, understanding and common interests,” he added.
In his speech, popular American preacher Yusuf Estes, who was a music priest, underscored that every human being wants peace. “However, there may never be real peace without security, sincerity, purity, and obedience to Almighty Allah, the Most Peaceful, who is the only one who can give us true and everlasting peace.”
Aiming global unity through peace, the three-day event is being held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Meanwhile, a unique International Exhibition on Islam is being held on the sidelines of the congress featuring about 300 panels spread over 100,000-square-foot area. The show presents the ideology of Islam in its pristine purity. Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais, renowned orator and Imam of the Holy Mosque in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, will lead the Friday prayers on the second day of the Dubai International Peace Convention today.
The sermon is expected to touch on the values of Islam, such as peaceful co-existence, renouncing violence and encouraging a state of global harmony among people from diverse cultures.
