Opinion and suggestions of Dubai government bodies were sought at the meeting on the proposed amendments in some categories, and the mechanism of evaluation and participation.

The meeting, which included a workshop to familiarise the attendees with DGEP’s evaluation session, reviewed the proposed amendments on standards of a number of categories, including the excellent government entity. The requirements for some standards were adjusted by listing two sub-standards — community commitment and results of partnership— to help clarify the concept of partnership and community commitment in government sector.

The participants discussed proposals for amendments to the criteria for other categories, such as the professional excellence, the best government entity in terms of implementing the self-appraisal system, the government body most committed to national identity, and the excellent electronic government body. The changes reflected the keenness of the government entities to reinforce excellence in Dubai government by being accurate and transparent, and hence serve the purposes of government development of Dubai Strategic Plan 2015.

The conferees were familiarised with the categories of the excellence programme, contestants in its 16th session and the mandatory participation in it. The participation categories in the evaluation session of the programme include optional and mandatory.

In his comment on the importance of the workshop, Abdulla Al Shaibani, Secretary-General of the Dubai Executive Council, who is also chairman of the Dubai Government Excellence Programme, said: “The workshop underscores the keenness of DGEP on effective interaction with all government entities to ensure the conspicuousness of the development amendments proposed to be introduced to the work systems and approaches to the programme.” The amendments aim, as a whole, to boost and continue the march of excellence and the contributions by the DGEP over the last 15 years, under the leadership and kind patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

“Continuous development and improvement are among the most important values the programme pursues,” he said, noting that therefore, “it is keen on upgrading the rules of participation and evaluation in collaboration with the Dubai government entities, in a way that match the stage of maturity in the march of excellence, which the programme and the government bodies have reached, and which has put the Government of Dubai in the frontline with the governments of the advanced world,” he added.
