Saudi to face Kuwait in Gulf Cup final

Saudi Arabia edged UAE 1-0 and Kuwait beat Iraq in a penalty shootout to reach the Gulf Cup final on Thursday. The final is on Sunday.

Ahmed Abbas scored in the 55th minute during Saudi Arabia’s better second-half performance against UAE. The Emirates had the better first half but missed two golden opportunities to score.

Kuwait topped Iraq 5-4 on penalties after they drew 2-2 after extra time.

Iraq midfielder Qusai Muneer sent his penalty kick over the crossbar to put Kuwait through to the final. Striker Badr al Mutawa opened the scoring for nine-time Gulf Cup champion Kuwait in the first minute.

Iraq leveled five minutes later with a strike by midfielder Hawar Mohammed, and went ahead in the 18th through Alaa Abdel-Zahra.

Midfielder Fahd al Ineizy equalised for Kuwait in the 57th to force extra time.

The eight-nation Gulf Cup 2010 opened last week.
