During half-time at the game against Al Wasl, five supporters will compete for the Dhs1,000,000 prize pot.
Since this record breaking cash competition was announced, the club has distributed tens of thousands of free tickets to members of the public with hundreds of others coming to the stadium to collect free passes as word spread.
In the crowd will be nine former Al Jazira players, including famous names such as Jasem Jumaa and Awad Ak Amiri, who were today at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium to take a look around the arena they once graced.
Nabeel Shaan, himself a former Al Jazira player, said: “We always felt that we were part of Al Jazira’s great history, but this is great. I appreciate this initiative by Al Jazira.”
Dhaid Ahmed, who played for the club between 1979 and 1991, said he feels the atmosphere around the club is altogether different this year to previous years.
“I feel that Al Jazira as a club and as a team is different now,” he said.
“The team are really showing everyone what they are made of and achieving great results. But in order to be successful they need the ongoing support of their fans,” he added on Thursday.
With anticipation over this weekend’s top-of-the-table clash and the potential to win Dhs1m catching the imagination of the Abu Dhabi community the club are urging fans to grab their seats early to guarantee an evening of great entertainment.
“The doors open at 6pm and due to the size of the crowd we are anticipating it is important people get to the stadium early,” said Al Jazira Club commercial director Steve Hall.
“In addition to supporters with tickets we expect some fans to be collecting free passes at the North Stand before the match.
“The entertainment starts at 6pm and all the food and beverage kiosks will be open so we would urge people to come and soak up the atmosphere early.”
