Dubai Sports Complex set to be unveiled on 10/10/10

Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, will dedicate to the nation Dubai Sports Complex, the emirate’s prestigious multi-purpose stadium that will host the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships from December 15-19. The grand opening ceremony will start from 7pm, according to a media invitation from the Dubai Municipality.

Dubai Aquatic centre, said to be the world’s best indoor aquatic facility, is the key element of the arena located at the edge of Dubailand. The centre is a two-tier golden teardrop-shaped facility with an Olympic standard 50-metre pool along with another 50-metre pool with a moveable floor.

The General Projects Department of the municipality developed the aquatic centre in a sprawling 61 acres of land off Dubai Bypass Road at an estimated construction cost of Dh1.1 billion.

With a seating capacity of 15,000, the facility will herald a golden era in aquatic events in the region once it successfully hosts the FINA championships in which 130 countries are expected to participate.

Many other events linked to various sectors are also lined up for the rare calendar date 10/10/10.
