Inter Milan take on Seongnam in the semifinal of the FIFA Club World Cup at the Zayed Sports City on Wednesday.

“Each player knows well what they’re playing for. So, when you prepare, you have to be well aware of that because the first game is like a final. And with an excellent result we can go to the final. In a world competition such as this, every game is like a final. We have to be focused and at our very best to be able to face these games,” said Cordoba.

The central defender, who has been with Inter for a decade and will most likely end his career with them after having renewed his contract till 2012, said that team spirit will carry them through. “I think it is very important on how players feel. Everyone has given a lot to this team and this is very important. They all know the situation. The most important thing in the group is the spirit. They are all willing to do well we have the qualities and weapons to do well,” said the Colombian.

Cordoba said that it was moments such as these that players aim for. “They are very special moments. It is like a dream for me to be playing in the Club World Cup. These opportunities come once in your lifetime. So, these are situations that you want to take advantage of because you never know what happens,” said Cordoba, who played in the 1998 World Cup.

If Inter get through their semifinal, they face a potential match-up against Brazilian heavyweights and former champions SC Internacional. SC Internacional need to ward off the challenge from TP Mazembe in the other semifinal.

“Internacional are a team that have a lot of experience and they have shown what they can do at the international level. Their mentality is very good and they will be tough opponents,” said the 34-year-old.

Inter, who won the treble last season have been hampered by a string of poor results in the Serie A and the Champions League. But Cordoba said that they will get through this.

“There are no differences. It is a football team that continues to work really well to reach its goals. And so far, I think, out goals have been met. We have been through some tough situations but we have the chance to change the situation. Each team has its difficult moments but are committed to doing well. We are here with a team full of quality,” he said.
