The Dubai Design Week (DDW) is going on, and the emirate is alive with design.

Dubai's first design week centres around Downtown Design Dubai, which opened at Dubai Design District (D3) on Tuesday.

Downtown Design Dubai is a trade event that will see 90 brands participate. Among those taking part are Aati, Gaggenau, Kartell and Christofle.

The week has been curated under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, the Design Week and is also supported by both the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (DCAA), and the Dubai Design and Fashion Council (DDFC). But do look out for the other programmes too, such as the Global Grad Show.

For the first time, the highlights of graduate shows from a worldwide roster of design-education programmes are brought together in a single space, giving visitors an unprecedented opportunity to discover the ideas that will define the design landscape of the future.

Curated by Brendan McGetrick, #GlobalGradShow features the work of 50 international young designers and design teams, each selected for their creative approach to problem-solving and their potential to make a lasting improvement to human society, across six themes: Construction, Home, Health, Memory, Play and Work.

Participating universities: Royal College of Art, MIT, Pratt Institute, Hong Kong PolyU, National University of Singapore, ECAL, Keio University Graduate School of Media Design, Eindhoven University of Technology, KAIST, Tsinghua University.
