Amato by Furne One showed what showmanship is all about during the grand finale of Fashion Forward. The hour-long wait in the queue was worth it to experience the dramatic challenge of colours and palette madness that was the highlight of this collection. The show started with a mix of Bollywood, Persian, Arabic and some pop tracks. It was a pleasant surprise to hear the popular Dola Re song from Devdas playing at what was easily the most awaited show of the three-day Fashion Forward event.

“My inspiration is the conquest… the conquest of Alexander. He conquered Persia, he went to India, Afganistan and many tribal places. This is the feel. It is more Asian culture because Asians are very rich in culture. It’s all about the richness in colour,” Amato explained after the show.

“It’s a concept. I want my audience to feel my work. The most important thing for me was the experience.” The designer as usual received a standing ovation for the colourful finale which saw lots of bright jewel colours – ruby reds, emeralds, blues and purples in fabrics such as French lace and tulle, all embellished in sequins and crystals and plenty of flowers.

Fairytale effect

Girls were having fun on the ramp during Zayan Ghandour’s Autumn Winter 2014 collection. Her collection’s main inspiration was the 1990 classic Pretty Woman, with many of the pieces directly referencing outfits worn by Julia Roberts in the film.

Zayan desbribes the woman wearing her collection as a renegade princess, marching towards her own destiny. Words of love embroidered in lace, sweats with sheer panelling, and themed patches, puff lace in pastel pink, lilac navy and black were all in plenty during the show.

Modernisation of Arab Fashion

Whereas the panel discussion on Modernisation of Arab Fashion that took place on the last day of Fashion Forward sounded a bit confusing, it was designer Zareena who showcased the real modernisation of Arab fashion with her Spring and Summer 2014 collection with long gowns and head pieces with daring colour combinations. The inspiration for this collection came from nature’s ability to deliver beautiful scenery. Her main theme was abstract shapes and lines that became works of art when combined and placed on the designs artistically. (arti@khaleejtimes.com)
