The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was the season-ender last year and went down in Formula One history as the first day-night race.

The state-of-the-art Yas Marina Circuit and the race drew praise from around the world and Eccelstone was happy that it was well received.

“After last year’s inaugural race, I just sat back and wallowed in all the compliments that were heaped from people all over the world,” Eccelstone said at the paddock during this year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Eccelstone, who turned 80 on October 28, praised the organisation of the event last year and said that circuits like these would make his job easier.

“If only all the venues were as superb as Abu Dhabi, I would be one happy man. The inaugural race was a runaway success drawing huge praise, especially from the drivers, who were thrilled driving on the state-of-the-art facility. “I’m totally satisfied with the setup,” Ecclestone said.

As the Formula One calendar expands with Korea having played host this year, the Indian Grand Prix will debut next year in New Delhi.

The F1 boss paid a visit to the track recently to oversee the progress of the construction. The Indian Grand Prix will be the 18th race subject to approval.

About the progress of the Indian circuit, Ecclestone said: “It’s going well. It’s going to be a very good circuit. I have gone around it and we will wait and see how it’s after completion. I am very happy with what has happened up to now. The people that are building it are confident and that’s more important.”
