Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director-general of the Dubai Police's traffic department, said the accident took place at 5.30am between a pick-up vehicle and a truck.
"The fatal collision, involving two vehicles was blamed on a heavy truck that stopped on the second lane of the road after having a burst tyre," he said.
The driver of the pick-up failed to notice the truck in time and rammed into it from behind.
The central operations room of the Dubai Police, alerted of the mishap, dispatched traffic patrols, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the reported site.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the morgue, while the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Dubai Police urged all drivers to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations for their own safety as well as that of others.
"All drivers must always be focused on the wheel. Any driver who has a burst tyre must move to the hard shoulder immediately to avoid accidents,"the police official added.
