The QS global ranking for world universities 2019 report was released today. Securing the spot for the first time, the report highlights Ajman University's ranking in the top 2% of universities in the Arab region, and the top 3% in the world.
This report coincides with the figures revealed by the recent QS report, recognising the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman region among the world's top 100 destinations for students.
"Out of the 1,000 universities we have ranked globally this year, 8 of them are from the United Arab Emirates, and I am happy to see that Ajman University has broken into this elite list. This shows the tireless efforts the leadership, administration, faculty and students have put in for the last few years," said Ashwin Fernandes, Regional Director for QS in MENA.
The eight universities featured in the global ranking are - Khalifa University, United Arab Emirates University, American University of Sharjah, American University in Dubai, University of Sharjah, Abu Dhabi University, Zayed University, and Ajman University.
Ajman University has been a pioneer in higher education since it was founded in 1988 and with 22 accredited programs offered across 9 academic colleges, the institution is one of the region's most comprehensive universities, as well as being the oldest.
"Being ranked among the top 3% of universities in the world is a truly remarkable way to commemorate AU's 30th Anniversary," said Dr Karim Seghir, AU Chancellor.
"AU's debut in the prestigious QS World University Rankings firmly establishes our place on the global map - a goal set forth in our Strategic Plan and articulated by our vision of being internationally recognised as one of the leading universities in the Arab world."
"Our 2019 edition of QS World University Rankings has raised the bar even higher for measuring universities from around the world.
"Getting into the list, is just the beginning for Ajman University; and there is a much tougher task ahead to sustain their position and to gradually move up the ranks, " he added.
Earlier this month, Ajman University launched the College of Medicine, generating great interest across the UAE and beyond.
Set to enrol the first batch in September 2018, the College will offer an integrated medical curriculum taught with Artificial Intelligence and 3D simulation in state-of-the-art labs.
This summer, the College of Dentistry's new mobile dental clinic will start serving the homebound across the UAE.
AU's passion for innovation puts the university among the top 8 in the UAE, per the QS Rankings report.
