A grade 9 pupil at a government school in Sharjah fractured his leg and broke his hand while trying to hide his mobile phone in the ceiling of his classroom. While trying to hide the phone, he fell back onto the seats and then to the ground, causing serious injuries.
The school authorities rushed the boy to Al Qasimi Hospital and informed the parents.
Following the incident, the school authorities have warned parents that "the management has the right to take away mobile phones from students and summon parents to the school."
Carrying the mobile phone to schools is considered a violation of student conduct rules issued by Ministry of Education (MoE).
An official from MoE said they had already alerted schools not to allow students to bring mobile phones to schools.
The MoE has also called on the parents to cooperate with school managements.
