Organised by the Ministry of Education on Wednesday, the conference saw a meeting with top leaders of the ministry to recognise the recent trends for the new academic year.

Ministry officials announced that the first phase of the pilot project is in full swing across eight schools in the country. Marwan Ahmed Al Sawaleh, Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services, said: “Three schools in Dubai, three in Sharjah, and two in Ajman are currently being tested under the smart learning project. The pilot is being implemented in Grade 7 and subjects such as Arabic, Science, English, and Mathematics will be taught under the pilot project.”

Al Sawaleh added that to facilitate the project, teachers have been trained. A technician will be available in each school, a dedicated call centre has been set up, mentors for teachers have been hired, and touch screens have been installed in these schools. He stated that no contract with individual electronic supplier has been signed.

“We are focusing on testing the best suited equipment for the project. iPads and computers have been supplied to the schools as well. After initial feedback, a decision will be taken. As part of the second phase of the pilot, six to eight more schools will start the smart learning project in January 2012,” said Al Sawaleh.
