The announcement was made at a ceremony today at Emirates Palace where the award was presented to Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, on behalf of Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, by Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Khalifa Award for Education.
Thirty three winners of the award were also honored at the ceremony today.
In a speech at the speech, Shaikh Mansour emphasised that the Award continues to make success building on the success of its previous rounds and to the educational values it established both in the UAE and the Arab region, thanks to the prudent vision of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
“The Award adopted development, modernisation and expansion as an approach to expand to Arab countries and to create new spheres. Between the first and sixth round, the number of nominations to the Award has doubled, and a new category under the name ‘Educational Personality’ was created in recognition of the personalities which provided continuous support to education and drove it towards excellence and quality,” Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed said.
“Based on the wise leadership’s belief in the importance of education in sustainable human development and in building a modern state by the hands of its citizens, the Award celebrates individual and institutional creativity and rewards innovators and creative persons in all areas of education, administration and research,” he added.
The Board of Trustees of the Award, he noted, decided that General Shaikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces will be the first to be named the ‘Educational Personality’ as he is the leader and supporter of educational development in Abu Dhabi.
Shaikhs, ministers, senior officials, VIPs from the UAE and abroad attended the ceremony.
