State Education Minister Abdu Rabb announced the results here on Wednesday. The overall result this time set a new record with 94.17 per cent of the 479,650 candidates passing the examination with eligibility for higher studies. Last year the same pass percentage was 93.64 per cent.

A total of 442 students from nine schools in the UAE had appeared for the exam held in March. Out of this, 337 secured eligibility for higher studies. Six of the nine schools recorded 100 per cent pass rate.

They are: The Model School, Abu Dhabi (with 80 students); The New Indian Model School, Dubai (with 58 students); The New Indian Model School, Sharjah (with 35 students); The English School, Umm Al Quwain (with 47 students); The New Indian School Umm Al Quwain (with 16 students ); and New Indian Model School, Al Ain (with 31 students).

Indian Higher Secondary School, Ras Al Khaimah and The Indian School, Fujairah, missed the distinction by one. Forty five out of 46 students in the Indian HSS and 40 out of 41 in The Indian School, Fujairah secured eligibility for higher studies. Three out of 70 students failed in the Gulf Model School, Dubai.

A total of seven students from the UAE passed all 10 subjects with A+ grade. They are Mohammed Shihab Usman from New Indian Model School, Dubai; Beneta Sara Sam from The Indian School, Fujairah; Fathima Farhana, Muhammed Zahan Zakher and Rasik Mohammed from the Model School, Abu Dhabi; and Shahla Abdulla from New Indian Model School, Al Ain.

Only four students had secured A+ in all subjects last year. Kerala adopted the grading system in 2008 to avoid stress and unhealthy competition among the students. In the grading system, the board shows the grade instead of marks.

The number of students appearing for the Kerala board exams in the Gulf countries has been dwindling over the years. A total of 496 students had appeared for the examination from 14 schools from various Gulf countries last year. Five schools did not participate in the examination this year.

The Education Minister said that overall performance of students from all regions in the country and outside had shown a marked improvement. As many as 10,073 candidates secured A+s for all subjects against 6,695 last year.

The Minister said that the certificates would be distributed to the students from May 15. The Save-A-Year (SAY) examination giving one more chance to failed students to pass the examination in the same year will be held from May 13 to 18.
