It's been 90 years since the unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and there is much to celebrate when we take stock of how ably the country has carried the mantle of leadership in the Arab world and on the global platform. Saudi Arabia's strong leadership has played a pivotal role in numerous crises and conflicts, and helped restore peace and stability in the region. As the leader of Opec, it helped pull the energy world from its biggest crisis in decades earlier this year, and now as it bears the mantle of the G20 leadership it is bringing together countries to fight during this unprecedented crisis. The extraordinary meeting of G20 foreign ministers called by Saudi Arabia in March reinforced the belief to work collectively.
What's admirable about the kingdom and its leadership is how they have kept pace with the time. To think of a country with the second highest oil reserves in the world to be at the forefront of investing in renewable energy shines light on its forward-thinking policies. Vision 2030 aims to cover 50 per cent of the country's energy demand from renewable energy, an enviable target that could inspire more countries in the Middle East to follow suit and build momentum for green initiatives. Clean energy is at the centre of KSA's strategy. The country is leading by example and remains the bulwark of a strong and united GCC.
