A man is facing trial at a Dubai court after he allegedly threatened to castrate his manager and kill him.
The Court of First Instance heard that the 36-year-old Sri Lankan man, who works as a cook, made the criminal threats in October last year.
In messages he sent to the complainant on WhatsApp, he asked him to leave his wife (the victim's) or he would kill him at a shopping centre in Jumeirah.
He also verbally abused the victim and his mother in other messages. He has been charged with online blackmail and making criminal threats and verbal abuse.
A complaint was filed at Al Rafaa police station.
The defendant had been originally charged by the police with having illicit sex.
A 33-year-old Indian deputy manager recounted to the prosecutor how he panicked and got terrified by the defendant's messages. "The accused wanted me to leave my wife. I was worried he might execute his threats."
A police sergeant told the public prosecution investigator that the cook confessed during police interrogation that he sent the messages to the complainant with the said content.
During investigation, the defendant admitted he threatened the victim in WhatsApp messages.
The messages were found in his seized mobile phone, according to a report from the Dubai Police cybercrime department.
The trial will continue on April 10.
