The trio have been charged of bearing false witness after the papers they signed stated that the woman did not get married after divorce – which was proved false. The court condemned the woman and her new husband to six months in prison for forging an official paper.

The Arab woman was applying for financial aid for being divorced and being the only supporter of her two children from her ex-husband. The woman supported her application with a certificate which proved that she did not remarry after her divorce, yet she wanted three witnesses to substantiate the authenticity of her written claims.

She met three men and appealed to them for help, convincing them that it was humanitarian to help her so she could get aid for her two children. Although it was the first time they had met her, the men agreed to sign the paper.

After submitting the application to the RCA, the paper was found to have been fallacious and contradicted the marital status of the woman who was in fact married to another, after her first divorce.

The three witnesses, the woman and her second husband went on trial on the charges of forging an official document. They denied the charge brought against them and swore that they had signed the paper in good faith. However, the court believed that the signatures given by the three accused (the witnesses) was considered a perjury punishable by law. news@khaleejtimes.com
