A man, who forced a woman into having sex with him and also damaged her ear, has been jailed for 15 years.
The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance handed down the sentence to the Emirati man after he was found guilty of rape and assaulting the woman.
The court also ordered the man to pay the woman Dh10,000 for damaging her expensive earrings and another Dh21,000 as temporary compensation for the damages she suffered.
Official court documents stated that the man befriended the Asian woman after meeting her in Abu Dhabi.
And on the day of the incident, the Emirati took her in his car for an outing and they later went for shopping.
The man allegedly bought for the woman an expensive jacket from one of the designer shops in a shopping mall in the capital.
The woman then asked him to drive her back to her place, and while on the way to her home, the woman told the court that a quarrel broke out between her and the man.
She said he beat her up and also pulled her ear by her earring, which wounded the ear.
The woman further said that the man also forced her into having sex in his car.
The man then took the woman to a pharmacy where he bought her some medicines to treat her wounded ear.
He also reportedly gave her Dh500 to replace her damaged earrings.
The woman went to the authorities and filed a complaint against the man, after he dropped her at her home, accusing the man of raping her.
Police arrested the Emirati after investigating the case. Prosecutors charged him with rape and assaulting the woman.
The man has denied the charges throughout the trial.
His lawyer argued that there was no substantial evidence to prove that the woman was raped or assaulted.
The court, however, convicted the man based on evidence presented by prosecutors.
