It ordered the two teenagers to be admitted to a juvenile reformatory care home in the country, and sentenced the African to six months in jail, to be followed by deportation.

The Judicial Department in Abu Dhabi called on parents to keep an eye on their children, and find out who their friends are, and the persons whom they spend their leisure time with.

The department said it was strange that the two Emirati 16-year-olds struck a relationship with an African adult and how this relation did not capture the attention of the boys’ parents.

“Most of the cases where teenagers are involved underlie in their running events, the parental neglect or their indifference,” the department said, noting that apathetic parents resulted in their children falling into crime.

The Public Prosecution referred the two teenagers and the African to court, charging them with trespassing into a house and robbing it. The trio admitted that they had planned the crime. They went to the victim’s house at 11pm wearing masks and gloves and carrying knives.

Two of them sneaked inside, while the other remained outside watching.

The two managed to steal jewellery, cash, watches, mobile phones, iPads and other valuables, and divided the booty among them.

They sold some items to computer and mobile phone shops. They used the stolen ID card of a man, whose car they had robbed earlier, in selling the stolen items.

During interrogation, the trio confessed to the charges, and the police recovered some of the stolen items from their houses.
