Two men allegedly robbed Dh600,000 from two compatriots after attacking one of them with a pair of scissors and causing him a neck injury, a court heard.

According to prosecution records, the two defendants, including a visitor and a businessman, both Iranians, split their roles while committing the crime.

The businessman, 22-year-old H.Z., kept a watch on the complainants’ office and cleared the way for his accomplice, identified as I.K., 33, who ambushed the victim, robbed him and fled the scene.

Both faced a charge of forced robbery in the Court of First Instance.

One of the two complainants, a 28-year-old visitor, told the prosecution that he knew H.Z. “I dropped by my uncle’s grocery shop and found H.Z. there. I told him that I was carrying Dh200,000 and would hand them to my brother-in-law. H.Z. then offered me to have lunch with him but I thanked him and left,” he said in the investigation.

As the complainant reached his brother-in-law’s office in Naif area, he heard a knock on the door.

“It was H.Z. and I opened the door for him.” Shortly after that, there was another knock on the door. “H.Z. hurried to open the door even though I did not give him the permission. There was a man holding a pair of scissors and with a veil on face. He attacked me as H.Z. stood watching.”

The complainant managed to take the veil off his attacker’s face and identified him as H.Z.’s friend, I.K.

“When H.Z. saw that I identified his accomplice he rushed outside. After a struggle and a fight with I.K., the latter stabbed me in my back and neck several times. He snatched the Dh200,000 that I had”. I.K. also robbed Dh400,000 kept in a drawer at the complainant’s brother-in-law’s office.

“I could not chase him as I was injured”. A policeman said that the robbery was reported around 3:45pm on September 4, last year. “We found an injured man and arrested H.Z. in the robbery scene”. I.K. was also arrested shortly later.

H.Z. confessed to the police that he had planned the robbery.
