The police, as part of a campaign to curb the sale of crackers to children in view of the coming Eid Al Fitr celebrations when some indulge in bursting crackers, seized a large quantity of crackers from the two.
In the first case, the UAE national identified as A.A.A. was reported to be selling crackers, including dangerous ones, without a licence.
The police managed to locate his whereabouts in a very short time and arrested him from his house and confiscated the large quantity of fireworks which he intended to sell before Eid.
In the second case, the police also arrested the 35-year-old Bangladeshi identified as M.F.A for smuggling and trafficking in firecrackers. A large quantity of the contraband was seized from his house. The police urged the parents to monitor their children and not allow them to burst crackers, which are hazardous to their lives. The police called on the public to inform them about anyone selling these dangerous explosives to children.
Patrolling intensified
A Sharjah Police officer said security has been beefed up in the emirate in view of the Eid Al Fitr celebrations. “Patrols and traffic teams have been deployed at intersections and in crowded areas.”
The Eid plan, based on a detailed study of the security requirements, was approved by Lt-General Humaid Al Haddaidi, Commander-in Chief of the Sharjah Police. It includes increased patrolling in the usually crowded areas such as public parks, entertainment centres and commercial and tourist spots.
All key departments would work to see that the atmosphere of peace is maintained by keeping a watch over the shady characters, the officer said, adding that police patrols would also watch for the bursting of crackers and other fireworks.
